November Monthly Zoom Meeing
16th November 2020, 13:45 - 15:30
We hope you can join us on Zoom for our next monthly meeting:
Mountain Rescue (Penny Brockman)
Penny Brockman has been volunteering as a mountain rescuer in the Brecon Beacons since 1986. She is one of the few women in Britain to be in charge of a mountain rescue team Penny is a Chartered Accountant and is Finance Director of Mountain Rescue England and Wales.
Over the last 34 years she has been involved in hundreds of rescues; the Beacons is an area where conditions and scenery can often appear deceptively benign. Many of these call-outs have become major national incidents.
Penny will trace the story of how voluntary mountain rescue began in towns in England and Wales and developed its expertise, making it the highly specialised modern service it is today. She will share the experience of some of her more memorable call-outs, including the implications of operating in a COVID-19 environment.
Penny is the daughter or Orpington U3A member John Brockman. She will be answering questions at the end of her talk.
Please put the time in your diary and we will send an email to members with further details and instructions on joining the zoom meeting nearer the date.
