Update on Coronavirus - Monthly Meeting CANCELLED
14th March 2020
Dear U3A member
On Thursday the government announced that the UK is moving out of the contain phase and into delay, in response to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.
Although large meetings are not being specifically banned at present, the announcement stated that in the coming weeks, the government would be introducing further social distancing measures for older and vulnerable people, asking them to self-isolate regardless of symptoms.
Having a duty of care towards our members, the Committee has decided that we should take steps ahead of any instruction from the government.
The March, April and May Monthly General meetings have been cancelled.
The monthly coffee mornings and Coffee, Cake and Chat at the Buff have now been cancelled until May
Group Leaders are asked to consult with their members, taking into account any requirement to travel by public transport and whether the meetings are held indoors in a public building.
Individual members should make their own decisions whether to attend taking account of their own personal health situation.
Any member who is unwell (Coronavirus or otherwise) or has been in contact with anyone suspected of having Coronavirus should not attend meetings for at least 7 days.
If you attend any Meetings that are being cancelled and know other attendees without email, please pass this message on to them.
Members who still need to renew their membership should do so online or by sending their completed form and cheque to Linda, our Membership Secretary (Click HERE for more details or click on type Orpington U3A membership renewal 2020 in your browser).
Committee members will be on hand at Crofton Halls from 2 p.m. to 2.45 p.m. on Monday to explain the situation to anyone who doesn't receive this message. You are welcome to drop by and hand membership renewals to them.
We will continue to review the situation and keep members informed by email, on the website (www.U3Aorpington.org.uk) and in the newsletter.
We obviously regret having to make these decisions and look forward to seeing you all in happier and healthier times.

Chairman
